Bordeaux with Uniworld®
May 2015 we took a fantastic, romantic, luxurious Uniworld Waterways cruise on the Bordeaux River. We flew into Paris and immediately flew on to Bordeaux which is in the south western part of France. We arrived 3 days prior to boarding the ship where we had a great place to stay in the heart of the city. We loved this city and could have stayed much longer! It’s a UNESCO listed city with many, stately 18th-century squares. We stepped out of our apartment each day and any direction we went took us to a new square to stop for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a glass of wine, a new gorgeous statue, a new museum or lively outdoor market. We explored them all! The harmonious architecture and the newly revised riverfront made this such a delightful place for us to explore.
The cruise itself took us around the Bordeaux wine regions with many stops at centuries old Chateaus as well as small towns such as Bergerac (you remember Cyrano De Bergerac) and St Julien with sidewalk cafes and as picturesque as you can imagine.
The food everywhere was outstanding especially on the ship! The wine was glorious and we learned how to buy French wine and how the growing of the vines differs from the way they are grown elsewhere in the world. I love Uniworld Cruise Lines and can’t recommend them enough. You must love all-inclusive and luxury though!
We disembarked and then flew to Paris where we delightedly roamed around for 3 more days. And Paris is, well Paris….beautiful, ornate and perfectly wonderful.
This cruise was a favorite, oh who am I kidding – we’ve loved them all!
